A large dairy/lactating buffalo in the hot plains of Pakistan requires more than 130 liters of water per day during hot summer days.
Whereas a large dairy cow needs more than 110 liters of water per day. In extreme heat, animals with more milk, larger size, and higher feed intake drink even more water
In America, a cow milking 50 liters per day at 24-28 degrees’ Celsius drinks 280-350 liters of water in 24 hours.
Water intake depends on animal age, animal weight, dry matter/feed intake, body condition, milk production and heat intensity. Based on the same factors, if the animal is fed i.e. not tied, it drinks water 7 to 12 times, yes, 7 to 12 times in 24 hours according to its own will and physical needs. (Three, not four 3-4 times a day!!!)
Remember that both quality and quantity of water are important
Often we forget both quantity and quality. Water should not be high in iron or have a rusty smell. High iron levels make selenium, copper, and zinc less available to the body, and these three elements are most important in an animal’s reproductive system. It’s just a matter of iron and many other ingredients that affect water quality/quality and affects the animal.
The water tank of the animal should not be in the sun, make sure to make a shade on it, there should be no algae in the tank. Clean the sink at least twice a week with a brush/stiff mop and lime in the sink each time. If there is mold in the feed and moss in the water, the problems will never go away from your farm
You can also add enough lime ton the water bowl so that a thin layer of lime is formed in the water bowl.
The easiest way to provide water according to the needs of the animal is to keep and the animals in open enclosures and clean, fresh and odor free water is always available in front of the animals.
If the animals remain open, they will continue to drink water according to their will and need
At least in summer do not restrict the animal from water, let it drink at will, keep the animal open
In summer, fresh cold water lowers the animal’s body temperature and the animal feels less hot.
The animal likes fresh and cool water in summer, the cow especially does not like hot water above 25 degrees Celsius in summer. Cows will drink less water as the water temperature rises above 25 degrees Celsius. In winter, the animal likes warm water.
Alhamdulillah, fresh underground water meets the needs of both seasons. Drink fresh water!
Do not make water troughs too deep, too much water can get hot or cold in winter, try to keep fresh water in the trough from time to time.
Don’t have slippery mud near the water troughs, the ungulates are afraid to go to and such places and will be forced to go thirsty, so they will drink less water.
The lack of water in the animal’s body also decreases the production of milk and meat. 70-80% of the body consists of water. And milk is 87% water.
Acidic substances are continuously formed in the animal’s stomach, the animal decreases this acidity by chewing and drinking water frequently.
Drinking less water or losing more water from the body in summer increases the acidity in the animal’s stomach, which causes indigestion, thin dung, less food intake, less milk, lameness and dilution of milk, etc.
Read it again
Drinking less water or losing more water from the body in summer increases the acidity in the animal’s stomach, which causes indigestion, thin dung, less food intake, less milk, lameness and dilution of milk etc.
Due to lack of water, the toxic substances produced in the body are less excreted from the body in the form of urine, dung, and sweat. This decreases the enactment of the animal.
Fresh and clean water should be available to the animal 24 hours a day
